1st 4000m of the Alps from the East, I named the Piz Bernina at 4048m. Located in the Engadin massif, it seems to be well isolated from its other 4000m friends. However, it stands in a massif whose average altitude is relatively high.
Moving around in this area has a little taste of mountaineering: crevassed glacier, technical summits, altitude.
This Bernina ski touring is therefore an invitation to practice ski touring - mountaineering or how to mix ski touring practice and the use of mountaineering skills.
The entrance to the massif will be through the Diavolezza, one of the two ski lifts that allow access to these numerous slopes.
Late to be on skis at this time? No, because given the altitude, it is a massif that is practiced rather late in the season, to avoid the rigours of winter. The itinerary includes a ski touring ascent of Piz Bernina and Piz Roseg, crossing Piz Palü.
A magnificent route among the Swiss, both technical and high altitude.
J1 | The first day puts us directly into the bath. We take the Diavolezza ski lifts which project us almost 1000m higher, in the high mountain area. The objective of the day is to cross the Piz Pälu with its photogenic ridge. So we go up the glacial slopes and then cross this mountain. Crossing down to Rifugio Marinelli at 2813m. | 1090m D+ 1230m D- |
J2 | On paper the stage is short but the program is designed to be able to do the Bernina Piz on that day or the next day (to adapt as well as possible with the weather). Ascent from the Marinelli refuge to the Marco e Rosa refuge at 3597m, then, if the weather permits, we head towards the summit of our first 4000 of the Piz'Alp epic. Back down to the Marco e Rosa refuge. | 1060m D+ 350m D- |
J3 | If the weather had not allowed us to do the Bernina summit the day before, we are trying our luck this morning. Then we go down from the refuge to put the skins back on and head for the Fuorcla da la Sella. From there, fast ski descent then first back skiing, we go up to Piz Roseg at 3936m. Descent from the summit on skis to Chamanna Coaz (by that you mean Coaz refuge). | 1000m D+ 2000m D- |
J4 | From the refuge, climbed up in one go to reach the top of Chapütschin at 3387m. From there, we remove the skins for a great and beautiful descent to Sils Im Engadin, the end of our 4-day raid. | 830m D+ 1650m D- |
Tu es un bon skieur et tu pratiques déjà le ski de randonnée. Tu souhaites faire un raid à ski mêlant ski et alpinisme (portage des skis sur le dos, crampons, arêtes) le tout sur des hauts sommets.
